Yesterday was GARBA… ahem… New Release Day!
Just wanted to spotlight a few notable titles hitting the shelves before returning to the Christmas madness… Madness!
Meet the sexy new neighbor, Jerry Dandrige (Colin Farrell). He’s dangerously charming – and utterly lethal. That’s because he just happens to be a vampire, and out for blood…buckets of it. After high school senior Charley Brewster (Anton Yelchin) makes the connection between Jerry’s suspicious activity and a steadily rising body count, he vows to end the reign of terror next door. But he can’t do it alone. His only hope is Las Vegas magician/vampire-slayer Peter Vincent (David Tennant). Together, this unlikely duo set out to end Jerry’s evil rampage. But Jerry is a ruthless, relentless killer, and he’s not going down without a fight. Get set to sink your teeth into this thrilling re-vamp of the terrifying horror classic. Featuring a star-studded cast and crawling with bonus, Fright Night will captivate you from the very first bite!
The 2011 remake of a classic 1985 horror comedy. Although hardcore fans of the original may be disappointed, no one looking for fun with David Tennant will leave completely unsatisfied. See the official website and my review on Cinedelphia for more details.
It’s 10 pm and the employees of Michigan’s Walnut Lake Supermarket are in for a really bad night. The place is shutting its doors for good and the night crew has a long shift ahead of them… longer than they think! The lovely check-out girl has a deranged ex-boyfriend, the store’s phone lines are cut, and the employees start dying in the most stomach-churning ways imaginable (courtesy of Academy Award®-winning KNB EFX Group). A deranged killer is on the loose in the grocery store! Can anyone stop this murderous intruder? Synapse Films is proud to present Scott Spiegel’s INTRUDER, the holy grail of extreme gore cinema, in an all-new 2K high-definition transfer of the original uncut, uncensored version. Sam Raimi (director of THE EVIL DEAD and SPIDER-MAN) and Renée Estevez (TV’s THE WEST WING) star in this cult film classic that critics call a gorgeous low-budget shocker that has long been one of the best kept secrets of the genre scene (Alan Simpson, Sex Gore Mutants). Be sure to look for Bruce Campbell (THE EVIL DEAD, TV’s BURN NOTICE) in a cameo role!
Although I don’t love the film itself, the cast and crew of this 1989 slasher should be of great interest to any genre fan. (Bruce Campbell’s appearance is oversold, but seeing the Raimis and other horror icons on screen is great fun.) Netflix users can see the film for themselves on Instant now, but this new Blu-Ray/DVD combo boasts a brand-new transfer, deleted scenes, commentary, featurettes and more.
